The easiest way to implement Daylight Dimming

DAYTRONIC ballasts are high quality electronic dimming ballasts that were specifically designed for Daylight Dimming applications.

In contrast to standard electronic ballasts, they contain all the necessary intelligence for a stable and comfortable operation in the ballast logic. Usually, this intelligence is not part of a ballast but needs to be contained in the sensor which requires much larger and more expensive sensors or additional interface boxes.

In comparison, DAYTRONIC ballasts work with a very simple and extremely reliable photosensor which can be connected directly to the 1..10V control input. This sensor can be included extremely unobtrusively into the luminaire body or into the ceiling.

The sensor measures  the available light on the work area (combination of artificial and ambient light) and automatically adjusts the artifical light level depending on how much daylight is available.

No commissioning required

Daylight Dimming is not very widespread today because most of the available systems require an expensive and time consuming commissioning on site. Usually, the light level needs to be set at the sensor, then checked with a luxmeter, then the sensor needs to be adjusted again and so on.

In contrast, DAYTRONIC ballasts are very simple to install. They come pre-calibrated to the common building standards light levels (500  / 350 / 150 lux) ex factory. No commissioning is required on site.

Best possible lighting comfort thanks to small groups of lamps

Daylight Dimming installations are typically perceived as providing a very high lighting comfort when the groups of lamps dimmed by one sensor are very small. Ideally, every work place should have its own control system as lighting conditions in a room are different across different places in this room. However, in most conventional applications many (or all fittings in a room) are controlled by just one sensor because the sensors are too expensive for a more "granular" solution. This will inevitable result in mismatching dimming levels in some of the workplaces.

The solution is to make the groups of lamps per sensor very small. Ideally each fitting has its own sensor in order to guarantee correct lighting levels at all times on all of the workplaces.  This is exactly the philosophy behind DAYTRONIC: One simple & reliable sensor per fitting.

The low price of the DAYTRONIC system and the lack of commissioning costs make this solution very economical.
