Occupancy Sensors: Overview of types

Find the suitable sensor for your application

Each ceiling sensor can be described in 3 dimensions:

  • Required functionality
  • Ceiling  height
  • Supply voltage

1. Which functionality do you need?

a.) Occupancy Sensing (On/Off)
Lights are turned on when a room is occupied and off when a room is vacant. You can choose whether you want the lights to stay OFF when enough daylight is available.

b.) Combined Occupancy Sensing (On/Off) + Daylight Dimming 
ON / OFF as above PLUS Dimming output 1-10V to dimmable ballasts or other controls. In addition, this sensor type provides full Daylight Dimming functionality. Your choice for highest energy savings and excellent lighting comfort.

2. What is your ceiling height?

Standard types are suitable for up to 5m ceiling height. This covers most office, restaurant and residential applications.  For higher rooms a customised version for up to 10m ceiling height is available. This is popular for high-bay storage, hotel foyers or factories.

3. Voltage?

230V: The 230V types have a built-in relay and can switch the lights directly - no further control elements required. This is usually the case in most small and medium offices, cubicles, storage rooms, bathrooms, etc. Your best choice when one sensor can cover the area of your room.

24V: These are your choice when you required advanced functions (such as remote controlled dimming) or when you need a larger observation area than one sensor can give you. The 24V sensors can be connected together easily (e.g. for open plan offices) in conjunction with a separate switching adapter unit. The 24V types are also your choice as input sensors for various Building Management  & Home Automation Systems.
